Spring Tour Dates -Confirmed
Video Section Update
The director of “Born Entertainer” (Chris Morrison aka Mink) was nice enough to send me a master copy of the video and it is now available for your viewing pleasure in the video section. Mink was also gracious enough to answer some questions about the video:
Hi mink , thanks for taking the time to answer some questions, can you tell us a little bit about the Born Entertainer video? I asked Louise this question and she wasn’t 100% positive, but in the beginning of the video the graveyard fence says “Legends of Hollywood” is that the title of the actual graveyard?Â
“No we made that as miniature set and composited it into the scene. It was sort of a metaphor for the idea of the song.”
Who came up with the general concept and what aspects of the concept were you involved with?
“The label sent me the track and I having a comic book background kind of ran with the idea. It was sort of inspired by the movie BODY DOUBLE.”
What is the significance of the “blonde girl,” in the beginning dropping the photographs? Or are they magazines?Â
“The girl was supposed to be a stab at the time at all the little blonde girl manufactured pop stars that were dominating the press and the airwaves.”Â
Where was the video filmed?
“The video was shot in Los Angeles on stage and in a real cemetery. Funny enough a few years later that same cemetery was closed because they lost some bodies. While we were shooting we found bones on the location… Cool but creepy…”
Did the car really break through the gates of the cemetery?
“Yeah we built the gate out of break away wood and did the Dukes of Hazzard on that bad-boy. That was fun.”
What made you colorize the video the way that you did? (The overall dark/graveyard of the video).
“The look of the video was the direction I usually work. I love super saturated colors, allot of contrast, definitive blacks and allot of depth of field.”
Was that actually Louise who came out of the water? And if so why was she rising out of the water? Was it cold or hot water?
“I think if I remember that was my assistant at the time as we were behind schedule and needed to shoot both scenes at the same time. She was rising out of the water yet again I think as a mystical vision which fit the feeling of Veruca Salt in a Gothic swamp.”
Was Veruca Salt painted onto the casket or was it digital?
“That was painted on. My art dept. is phenomenal. Norm is the best.”
Who’s digging up Veruca Salt in the robes?
“I think they were the producers brothers and friends. In the story it was a pagan cult looking for the band stuck in there crypt.”
What made you and the band decide to include the four Louise’s at the end of the video?
“The idea was to show that Louise was in control of the latest incarnation of VS and she had been thru some much at that time in her life. The video was a total collab between myself and her. Arguably one of my favorite clips still to this date.”
Can you tell us a little bit about the tornado and its significance?
“The tornado was again a supernatural metaphor for where Louise was in her life and the new incarnation of VS. She loved it in my treatment so we kept it. It came out very well I think.”
Are there any other details you can remember about the video, or the band during the shoot?
“It was a great shoot and Louise and the Band were total Pro’s. We knocked it out in two days . It was a creative persons dream to work with Louise because she knows what she wants and she just trusted me to do my thing. To this day no matter who watches the clip they say wow that was great. I love that.”
Thank You Mink!
